Andy Shauf: The Bearer of Bad News Album Review

By  |

Canadian singer-songwriter Andy Shauf has recently released his sophomore album The Bearer of Bad News. For those of you not familiar with his work, now is a great time to get acquainted. Like much of his previous work, The Bearer of Bad News is somber, sad, and just a touch sweet. Shauf is a storytelling master. He weaves such intricate and intriguing fiction that it is hard to believe the narratives found in his songs are not pure truth. The album is reminiscent on the cold Canadian prairie it was written in, and is best listened to on a rainy day or late at night. It reminds me a bit of early Elliot Smith, an artist whom Shauf is often compared to and who Shauf has admitted to being influenced by. Whether you prefer melody or lyricism, The Bearer of Bad News is worth a good listen.
