5 Seconds of Summer released their highly anticipated sophomore album, “Sounds Good Feels Good” today, and boy, does it sound good! I’ve been patiently waiting for this album to drop since they blew me away this past summer on their Rock Out With Your Socks Out headlining tour

The album opens with a pre-released track called “Money” that shows these boys have matured in sound from their previous album. You can definitely tell that that they are going back to the pop-punk roots they grew up on in the first half of the album. Track number three, “Hey Everybody!” is the seconds single and a bit of an anthem for all the kids who are lacking some funds but it’ll get better. Directly after is “Permanent Vacation”; another fun track that basically describes what it’s like to be a teenager. The song was played this past summer on their first headlining world tour but the recorded version will get you running around your room, screaming the song.

The song, “Safety Pin” accurately describes the image for the New Broken Scene 5 Seconds of Summer has created for their fans. “We’ll safety pin the pieces of our broken hearts back together.” You can tell that 5 Seconds of Summer definitely put all of their hearts into this album. The lyrics are more personal and deeper than their previous album. It’s also no secret that the band is very serious about getting the message that lies with this album out. They’ve created characters that represent each song and those characters have been displayed all over the world as grafitti.

The album closes out with a song called “Outer Space / Carry On” and you can tell how big of a song it is as soon as it starts and hits huge in the chorus. This album is definitely worth the listen. I would encourage you to listen to the tracks “Castaway”, “Invisible” and “Permanent Vacation”.

5 Seconds of Summer is doing the Jingle Ball tour this winter so if it’s coming close to you, go check them out! They’re playing Jingle Bash near Chicago this winter as well. Next summer, they’re headed out on another headlining tour around the world so if you can’t see them this year, there’s always next year!
Sounds Good Feels Good is available to stream on Spotify and for purchase on iTunes.
